F1 – Hungary Grand Prix Preview

Formula 1 returns this weekend in what is expected to be an EXTREMELY hot Hungarian Grand Prix. Temperatures are expected to be over 40 degrees, which may be of some concern to the teams after tyre issues this season.

Unfortunately for fans of Lewis Hamilton this will more than likely mean another disappointing race as the Mercedes struggles to look after it’s tyres on race pace… especially when it is hot. I expect another good qualifying performance from the team again but come sunday they will lack the pace and fall back.

Sticking with the Brits, Jensen Button has fond memories of this track however it isn’t looking like Mclaren’s problems are going anywhere in a hurry. This season has been very disappointing for the Woking based team and if things don’t improve could be their first winless season since 2006.

If anybody is going to prevent this weekend from being YET ANOTHER boring Vettel victory then I think that man will be Kimi Raikkonen. The Lotus went well last year with Kimi finishing 2nd to Lewis Hamilton.  The 2007 world champion came close to winning last time out in Germany, just running out out of laps as he wheeled in Sebastian Vettel.

Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen will be looking to go one better in Hungary this year.

Fernando Alonso will also be looking for a strong weekend if he is to have any hope of keeping his championship challenge going. The Ferrari has been too inconsistent to lodge a stable challenge against the Red Bulls. I can’t help but feel sorry for Alonso as in my mind (and many other’s) he is the best driver in F1. To come soo close the winning the title last season, in an average Ferrari, proved this.

If the Lotus cars can qualify well I think that they can have a serious chance of winning this race, the Red Bulls will be as strong as ever though and will be hard to beat. Alonso will again challenge for a podium and should be able to clear the two Mercedes, who will struggle with their tyres.

Hungary GP 2013 Prediction

  1. Raikkonen
  2. Vettel
  3. Alonso

Do you agree with my race predictions? Who do you think will win the race?
