Poll:Euro 2016 Qualifying begins for England in Switzerland

England get their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign underway tonight in what will arguably be their toughest fixture.

Roy Hodgson’s men take on Switzerland  and they will be hoping to put in a good performance to try and win the English fans back.

After the dismal performance at the World Cup many fans, including myself, lost interest with the national side.

The entire top tier was closed at Wembley last Friday as England whimpered to a 1-0 victory over Norway. I didn’t even bother tuning in to watch that match as I knew that it would be a boring game…..Turned out it was the correct decision on my part.

England need to earn back the fan’s support

I will be watching tonight’s match in the hope that it’s competitive nature, along with the fact that Switzerland are decent side, will lead to a good England performance.

England will have to play well if they are to leave Basel with a good result. The Swiss have some decent players such as Xherdan Shaqiri and Josip Drmic, both of which linked well together at the World Cup.

Shaqiri bagged himself a hat-trick in Switzerland’s final group match of the World Cup and was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer.

As for England, for the main dilemma for the manager is who to play up-front following the injury to Daniel Sturridge. The Liverpool striker’s absence is a huge blow as he is a striker full of confidence right now.

Personally I would play Danny Welbeck up-front. The new Arsenal striker will be wanting to impress his new manager and grabbing a couple of goals for England would be the perfect way to do that.

England need to be better in midfield and utilise the pace of Raheem Sterling. Sterling has been outstanding in recent weeks and was the stand-out performer in the win over Norway last week.

I just want to watch an England game where the team have put in a great performance at both ends of the field and have got the right result.

A win or draw tonight would be just that as I can’t see us having any problems against the remaining teams in the group: Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania and San Marino.

My Prediction: Switzerland 1-1 England

Do you think England can win tonight’s match? Take the poll below and let me know!

Vote in. I also think a draw will happen, or a win for the Swiss 1-0. Not too many goals.

They were certainly better going forward then I had expected! Unfortunately England looked shaky at the back once again and were lucky not to concede.

I thought England played well, particularly Sterling, Cahill and Wellbeck. Rooney was solid. It’s so much better without the ol’ timers lagging in the centre. I like this new guard and think they have a bright future.

One of the easiest groups England have ever had. They’ll probably have a few draws but there’s nothing for them to worry about, especially considering it’s top two getting automatic qualification and third gets playoffs.
