Manchester United finally added a big name to their squad yesterday, by purchasing Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.
United smashed the British transfer record by paying £59.7m for the Argentine winger, who has signed a five-year-contract with the club.
Many have criticised the club for spending such a large amount of money but I believe that Di Maria is worth every penny, especially with the transfer market being the way it is nowadays.
If you are going to buy one of the best players in the world, you are going to have to pay a huge amount of money.
Di Maria is the big name that United needed to help improve their attack. The Real Madrid fans’ reaction to him leaving says it all about just how much they valued him.
Di Maria provided Real Madrid with 49 assists during the past four years, with only Lionel Messi having made more in La Liga.
His pace alone ripped apart defences throughout the Spanish league and the Champions League. It was his marvellous run in the Champions League Final that helped set up Gareth Bale, you put Madrid into the lead.
Di Maria was rightfully named man of the match for his performance that night.
It is easy to see why the Real Madrid fans are soo annoyed with him leaving the club BUT their lose will certainly be United’s gain.
For the entirety of last season the build-up play in United’s attacks was too slow and often ended up going no where. The ball would constantly be played sidewards, with the players not knowing where to go next.
Attacks would fizzle out and no real goalscoring opportunities were created. This worrying trend seems to have carried on into this season, despite the initial excitement surrounding the performances in pre-season.
Di Maria can be the man to change all this, with his pace and goal-scoring abilities.
Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney will be thoroughly excited about the prospect of Di Maria playing in the same team as them.
The amount of goals that could now be produced thanks to these three players is a great thought for all United fans.
Di Maria will bring back the excitement to Manchester United, something that we arguably haven’t seen since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club.
I feel like Di Maria’s arrival is the final piece of the puzzle when it comes to United’s attack.
We just need to bring in more defensive players before the transfer window closes on Monday night. If we can improve the defence then I believe that United can have a successful season.
A defender and central midfielder has to be the priority for Louis Van Gaal now as we approach the final few days of the transfer market.
Goals will not be a problem now Di Maria has arrived…. United just need to make sure they ensure the goals stop going in at the wrong end of the field.
What are your thoughts on Di Maria? Can he help solve the slow build-up play at Manchester United?
