Stoke City have signed Stephen Ireland on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.
The midfielder made 45 appearances for Villa, but was frozen out of the squad by manager, Paul Lambert.
The move to Stoke means that Ireland will be reunited with Mark Hughes, who he played under during his time at Manchester City.
Stoke’s chief executive, Tony Scholes, hopes that Ireland can find the form he had when he was at Manchester City.
“Arguably the most successful period of Stephen’s career to date was when he played for Mark at City and we hope that he can rediscover that form.”
Ireland becomes Stoke’s second signing of the day, with the Potters signing striker ,Marko Arnautovic, earlier on in the day from Werder Bremen.
