Transfer News – Spurs may go for Juan Mata

Reports this afternoon are suggesting that Spurs may be about to launch a bid for Chelsea’s Juan Mata.

The move will surprise many, with the two clubs not having the best of relationships. Tottenham are still furious that Chelsea hijacked their deal to sign Willian for £30million.

The Brazilian had already passed a medical at White Hart Lane before Chelsea made their move.

As for Mata, his future does seem uncertain at Stamford Bridge, especially now that Willian has agreed to join them. Chelsea’s midfield is now full of attack-minded players, with the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and now Willian.

Spurs are interested in Juan Mata

Mata was an un-used substitute in Chelsea’s opening league game against Hull and only played 65 minutes in the Aston Villa game.

It could still be a possibility that Mata will be used as part of Chelsea’s pursuit of Wayne Rooney. Atletico Madrid have also expressed their interest in Mata, with a season-long loan deal being talked about.

If Gareth Bale is sold to Real Madrid, Spurs can expect Mata’s price to rise as Chelsea will know that Spurs have large amounts of money to spend.

This one has the possibility of turning the relationship between the two London club even more sour.

If this does happen, it would be very strange. Mata was excellent last season; I can understand why Spurs want him, but not why Chelsea would want to sell. But then again I couldn’t understand why Chelsea undermined Spurs’ move for Willian, as attacking midfield is not an area they to strengthen. The signing seemed more about preventing Spurs from improving than anything else. http://footballtalklife.wordpress.com/2013/08/25/a-week-in-football-rejuvenated-strikers-and-transfer-naughtiness/

I am surprised that Chelsea are seemingly freezing Mata out of the team. He was one of their best players last season. Would love to see him at United if they don’t want him.
