British Superbikes – Alex Lowes wins race one at Cadwell Park

Alex Lowes has won race one of the day at Cadwell Park on his Samsung Honda.

The local man led the race from the first corner and never looked back, setting the fastest lap time in the progress. Second place went to Championship leader, Shane Byrne, whilst the final podium place belonged to Josh Brookes on the Tyco Suzuki.

Another impressive ride from Tommy Bridewell saw the number 46 finish in fourth place, whilst the American rider, PJ Jacobson, finished 5th in his first race at the Lincolnshire track.

It wasn’t a good race for James Ellison though, with the Milwaukee Yamaha rider crashing out of a podium finish at the bottom of the mountain.

The race overall was quite tame compared to the usual BSB standards, with very little overtaking manoeuvres taking place.

The start of the race initially saw Byrne take the lead from the second on the grid, but Lowes was having none of it a slotted back down the inside of Byrne at the first corner.

Josh Brookes also made a strong start from seventh on the grid and was up to fourth place by the end of the first lap.

After a few laps, the top four riders were beginning to pull away from the rest of the field, something the sixth place man, Bridewell, reacted to by overtaking Jacobson into fifth. Bridewell put in some quick sector times and soon began to catch the leaders.

The top five riders were in a world of their own at the front, each matching each others lap times and therefore unable to overtake each other.

Shane Byrne and Josh Brookes also finished on the podium

That was until lap 12, when Ellison had a huge moment coming out of Mansfield corner which ruined his momentum on the straight leading up to the mountain. Brookes took full advantage of this and made his move into third place.

A couple of laps later and it got even worse for Ellison as he tried to catch Brookes back up. Ellison pushed just that little bit too hard going into the Mountain and lost the front of the bike. The Yamaha rider was visibly frustrated with the crash but luckily he did not look to be injured from the accident.

The penultimate lap saw Lowes pull away from Byrne and Brookes and he now had a 0.6second advantage. The positions stayed the same for the remainder of the race and Lowes took the chequered flag.
