Chelsea have today announced that a deal has been agreed to sign Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder, Willian.
Willian had looked set to join Tottenham after passing a medical at White Hart Lane. Despite the successful medical and discussing personal terms with Spurs, Willian admitted he was still considering his options.
Chelsea then entered the race to sign the Brazilian, with Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, telephoning the owner of Anzhi to express his desire to sign the 25-year-old.
It is believed that a transfer fee and personal terms were agreed on Friday, just two days after Willian had passed his medical at Spurs.
It is likely that Willian has chosen to join Chelsea, instead of joining Spurs, because the Blues can offer him Champions League Football this season.
Willian will become Chelsea’s third signing of the summer, having already signed Andre Schurrle and Marco Van Ginkel.
Willian’s arrival will strengthen an already impressive looking midfield, joining the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard and Juan Mata at Chelsea.
The transfer is subject to a work permit hearing on Wednesday.
