Football League Results – League Two

Oxford are still leading the way in League Two after they kept their unbeaten start to the season going. The U’s battled to a 2-2 draw against a resilient Wycombe Wanderers side, who played most of the second half with 10 men. Dean Morgan’s header put Wycombe into the lead just before half-time but the away side were reduced to 10-men shortly after the break, with the red card being shown to Charles Dunne for an elbow. United took advantage a couple of minutes later, equalising through a Danny Rose free-kick. Wycombe soon found themselves back in front though after being awarded a penalty, with Morgan being fouled by David Hunt. Morgan himself tucked away the penalty for his second goal of the match. Oxford showed why they are top of the league though and were rewarded deep into injury-time as Johnny Mullins smashed in the equaliser.

Chesterfield kept their unbeaten start to the season going, beating Southend 2-1. Southend were also unbeaten going into the game, but a late Armand Gnanduillet header gave Chesterfield the win. In an entertaining match, it was the home side that took the lead through a Gary Roberts free-kick. That lead only lasted ten minutes though, with Freddy Eastwood getting Southend’s equaliser. The away side pushed for a winner but could not find a way through and were punished in injury-time by Gnanduillet.  The result means that Chesterfield move up to second place, with Southend still up there in fourth.

Elsewhere, Burton Albion kept their impressive start to the season going, coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Bury. Goals from Anton Forrester and William Edjenguele gave the away side a 2-0 lead in the first half. The home side kept the pressure on though and got a goal back in the 83rd minute, Michael Symes heading the ball home. Albion were not finished there and kept on attacking the Bury defence. The away side thought they had held on for the victory but Adam McGurk’s shot had just enough power behind it to get past Bury keeper, Rob Lainton. The result means that Burton are in fifth place, with Bury down in 16th.
