Football League Results – League One

Leyton Orient and Peterborough continue to dominate League One, with both teams making it four wins out of four today.

Peterborough produced the most impressive performance of the day, thrashing 10-man Tranmere 5-0 away from home. Goals from Tommy Rowe and Tyrone Barnett put United in control early on, before Andrai Jones was sent off for a foul on Barnett. Grant McCann then slotted home the resulting penalty to make it 3-0 before half-time. Peterborough continued to press in the second half, with Britt Assombalonga getting his fourth goal of the season and Mark Little completing the rout. The result leaves Tranmere with just one point in 22nd place.

Leyton Orient remain top of the league on goal-difference after they beat Crewe 2-0 at the Matchroom Stadium. First-half goals from Moses Odubajo and David Mooney were enough for the home side, who were rarely troubled by Crewe. The closest the away side came to scoring was when Chuks Aneke’s shot hit the crossbar in the 80th minute. The result leaves the away side in 13th place in the league table after taking four points from four games.

Brentford meanwhile, kept their unbeaten start to the season going with a 1-0 home win against Walsall. Clayton Donaldson’s glancing header was enough for Brentford to take all three points. The Bees could have scored more if it was not for some excellent saves by Walsall keeper, Richard O’Donnell. The only downside to the game for Brentford was the suspected broken-leg, suffered by on-loan striker, Conor McAleney. The win puts Brentford fourth in the League One table. Walsall find themselves just outside the play-off places in seventh.

Down at the bottom of the table, Stevenage finally got some points on the board by beating fellow strugglers, Notts County, 1-0. James Dunne got the winning goal deep into injury-time from close range. The result means that County have only picked up one point so far this season and not looked very impressive. Stevenage meanwhile will hope that today’s result gets their season underway and allow them to move away from the bottom of the table.
