Football – Rooney left out of Community Shield

Wayne Rooney will not play in today’s Community Shield at Wembley.

The Manchester United player is apparently ruled out through a shoulder injury, despite being called up for the England game against Scotland on Wednesday.

If I am being honest, I do not think Rooney is injured at all and that this could signal the end of Rooney’s United career. This will look even more apparent if Rooney plays in the England game on Wednesday.

Wayne Rooney wants to leave Man United

It is clear that Rooney wants nothing more to do with Man United and wants to leave the club. I think that United are going to try and keep Rooney until after the team faces Chelsea at Old Trafford on August 26.

On a personal note, I am disappointed that Rooney isn’t playing today….. I would have LOVED to hear the crowds reaction every time he touched the ball.

For the match itself, I expect United to win comfortably. Wigan will pose a threat early on and the United players will probably be nervous in David Moyes’ first competitive match.

The quality within the United team will show and I expect Van Persie to grab a couple of goals. I am looking forward to see how new signing Wilfred Zaha gets on also. The winger was one of the best players in the Championship last season and it will be interesting to see if he can perform in the United team.

Community shield predicted score line:

Manchester United 3-0 Wigan Athletic

Do you agree with my prediction? What do you think today’s score line will be?
