James Ellison won race one at Oulton Park, which had to be re-started after a red flag on lap 1.
Ellison defended superbly throughout the race to stay in front of second place man, Shane Byrne. Alex Lowes finished in what proved to be a comfortable third place, finishing ahead of Josh Brookes.
Brookes had to battle for his fourth place finish, with Tommy Bridewell threatening to take the position away from the Australian. A couple of great rides from Ryuichi Kiyonari and PJ Jacobson saw them finish sixth and seventh respectively.
The original start saw Byrne make a great start, taking the lead away from Lowes at the first corner. Lowes fought back straight away however and re-gained the lead through Island Bend. Jacobson then took second place away from Byrne, whilst Ellison stayed put in fourth place.
The red flag was soon brought out however, after Keith Farmer’s Kawasaki leaked oil onto the track. The spillage caused both himself and Jamie Poole to crash out of the race.
Before the restart, Jacobson missed the pit lane exit time limit and instead of taking up his 3rd place grid position, had to start from the back of the grid. Once the race had been re-started, Byrne made another great start but was unable to take the lead away from Lowes.
Byrne was then over-taken by both Brookes and Ellison on the same lap. Ellison didn’t waste much time in disposing of Brookes and then took the lead on lap two at the first corner. Meanwhile further down the pack, Jacobson had already fought his way through to 11th place.
Byrne began battling with 2nd place rider, Lowes, on lap four, with the two swapping positions throughout the lap. Byrne finally made the move stick on lap six, overtaking Lowes at Island Bend. Brookes immediately followed Byrne through past Lowes and into 3rd place.
By lap 7 Jacobson had battled his way through into 9th place, after starting from the back of the grid. Kiyonari was riding in eighth place by this point, having started the race in 17th place.
The next lap saw Lowes take third place back from Brookes, meanwhile Bridewell was catching them both. In the closing laps, Bridewell caught up to Brookes but was unable to find away past the Aussie.
Meanwhile at the front, Byrne was right on the tail of the leader. Ellison rode very well however and got the most out his Yamaha, with some great defensive riding on the last lap to take the chequered flag.
